Stop and Write

Skills Developed:

Following directions

Writing letters or words

Gross motor

 

Materials:

Whiteboard and markers (or paper and pencils) for each student

 

Instructions:

  1. Call out on of the following activities for the children to do (or make up your own):

    • Jumping

    • Hoping

    • Touch hands to opposite knees (Called Cross Crawls)

    • Marching

    • Stand on one foot

    • Jumping jacks

    • Play air guitar

  1. Have the students continue the activity until you call out a letter. Once you call out the letter, they stop and write it down on their board.

  2. Write it on the board so that the students can check to see if they are correct.

  3. Call out another activity and repeat as above.

Variations:

  1. Use this activity to practice writing words.

  2. Review math facts by giving a math problem on the board and have the students write the answer down.
